Preparation
We begin with an understanding of your needs and a thorough assessment of existing data. We determine what data needs to move into the new system and what is no longer relevant, as well as resolving any issues or anomalies in the existing files that would grow worse if put through the data migration.
Planning
We map out where each piece of data will end up and select the data migration software that best fits your process. During this phase, we also determine what approach to use -- big bang or trickle -- depending on the project timeline and your company-specific needs.
Back-up
To ensure that nothing is lost should something go wrong during the data migration process, we securely backup all data before we begin to move it. If any files are lost or corrupted during the process, we have an easily accessible copy of the original.
Testing
We always implement data migration testing with a few files before we begin the full process. This step is vital to ensure that we don’t waste time and money or compromise data. We continue testing until we are confident that there are no errors in the software and files will safely reach their new locations as planned.
Migrating
Finally, we migrate the data. If we are using the big bang technique, all data will be moved in one big bang. This is a faster method but does mean all your company’s data will be inaccessible until the migration is complete. The trickle approach is a longer process but allows access to most of the data while smaller sections are being moved over.
Wrapping Up
When the migration process is complete, we perform a Quality Assurance analysis to ensure that all the data has reached the correct destination in prime condition. We take responsibility for any corrupted or duplicated data and quickly resolve the issue by removing redundancies or migrating replacement files from our backups.
